On The Wire - Flemington Commission Flats.
Sunday, May 13, 2007, 9:04 AM

Dear Diary - hung up and left out in the open...I have nowhere to go but I have a world to oversee...

redeye Four shoes - two sets of partners - inhabit a power line in the middle of a courtyard in the low section of the Flemington Commission flats...The sky is lightly peppered with the occasional cloud...

yellowsound Listening it becomes obvious that these shoes are not lonely - they are carressed by the ambient hum of the freeway traffic as they enjoy the cheerful company of birds...one of the guests has a quick chat then flaps off in search of the day's tasks...

Listen to a sound bite from this location...

greensmell So many complex and comforting aromas here...a superb blend of herbs and spices - the condiments and essential culinary ingredients of the cultures and multifaceted nationalities that inhabit this part of the world...

bluetouch At this point of the commission flats I find myself in a carpark courtyard that is hard and rough, being made mainly of asphalt and concrete pathways...

purpletaste Smell and taste are so interelated and interdependant it is impossible to seperate the two...grab a cross-sample selection of spice-filled home-grown take-aways, sample them one by one in one huge smorgasboard of flavours and textures and you will have the tastes of here...

On The Wire - Near Essendon Football Club.
Sunday, May 06, 2007, 6:59 PM

Dear Diary - "...little shoes, little shoes, hanging on the wire, you are ascended, you hover above...we crane our necks, you are aloft, you are above the everyday, and surrounded by light...no more the sole on soil, no more the intermediary between humanity and earth...it is all we can do to catch a glimpse of you amidst the all encompassing and blinding sheckina of your heavenbound glory..."

redeye In the haze of the evening's street light a pair of well tossed shoes are suspended from the power lines, their presence a testament to a dozen or more urban legends, none of which come close to the truth hidden in the four perimeter walls of this photo's frame...

yellowsound The location is obviously close to the essendon airport flight path as can be heard in the buzzing drone of a light plane...it is also place that a fair smattering of cars pass by...

Listen to a sound bite from this location...
(*.mp3 format, 940KB)

greensmell I can pick that strong smell of oiled wood that emanates from the weather protected timber of the lamp post to my left...

bluetouch The lampost's wood is dry and dusty, threatening a rash of splinters as I tentatively brush along it's grain...the leaves of some plants at the base of the lampost are slickly smooth ("Ooooh! Shiny!") but contain the potential equivalent of brutal paper cuts from their bladed edges...

purpletaste This location tastes like tar with a hint of chlorine easing in from the nearby Windy Hill Leisure Centre's swimming pool...

Chair Suspended.
Saturday, February 24, 2007, 9:17 AM

Dear Diary -
"I am a chair suspended...
My four legs are of little use
on this open woven
perilous
landscape...
I must tread carefully
for fear of falling into the gaps
and remaining
forever...
fettered...
suspended and exposed
to the open sky
and the harsh attacks
of this purgatory's
elements..."

Laid Back and Fishing.
Tuesday, January 09, 2007, 2:02 PM

Dear Diary - take one quiet spot, one rubber dinghy, a fishing rod and a nice warm day...great recipe for relaxing (and best of all you don't actually need to catch any fish...)

Dear Diary -
"...skimming the realms of the blue beyond, they trawl the depths of the city-scape, ever hopeful of a bounteous catch...
today has been good...
they will see well tonight...
